On August 7, 2024, Mantra Samui Resort partnered with Catalyst, a social enterprise, to drive the adoption of a 100% cage-free egg policy within the hotel by 2025. This meeting was attended by officials from the livestock department, cage-free egg farmers, and representatives from Betagro, a major egg distributor.

During the meeting, eggs from various farms were cracked open live, clearly showcasing the differences between battery-cage eggs and cage-free eggs. The cage-free eggs were notably superior, with gelatinous egg whites and vibrant, well-rounded yolks, indicating their freshness from healthy hens. Additionally, the absence of any fishy smell highlighted a significant advantage of cage-free eggs over battery-cage eggs.

This collaboration is part of an 18-month ongoing project that not only supports the use of cage-free eggs at Mantra Samui Resort but also aims to encourage the development of small-scale farmers within the local community on Koh Samui. This initiative seeks to boost farmers’ incomes and strengthen local egg production capacity.

The project also aims to create a positive impact on the environment and promote sustainable living by supporting the use of cage-free eggs. This effort is part of the hotel’s broader commitment to building a socially and environmentally responsible establishment (ESG).
