Deputy Director-General Leads Happy Chick Training Program in Phang Nga to Develop Cage-Free Egg Farming Across 9 Provinces
Initiative promotes environmentally friendly livestock practices and animal welfare to boost Thailand’s egg production sector
On June 5, 2025, the Livestock Promotion and Development Division, Office of Livestock Region 8, organized a training event under the project “Enhancing the Efficiency of Happy Laying Hen Farming (Happy Chick) to Link Production and Marketing of Happy Eggs in Region 8.” The training took place at the Chong Fah Conference Room, The Briza Beach Resort Khao Lak, Thai Mueang District, Phang Nga Province.
The event was honored by the presence of Mr. Pongphan Thamma, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Livestock Development, who presided over the opening ceremony. A welcoming speech was delivered by Mr. Chitsak Muangkhieo, Phang Nga Provincial Livestock Officer.
In this training, Mr. Pornchai Srisunthorntai, Deputy Director of Catalyst Social Enterprise, gave a lecture on the cage-free egg farming situation, providing essential knowledge for developing happy laying hen systems that align with international standards.
This project aims to:
• Provide knowledge and skills for efficient happy laying hen farming,
• Build and strengthen networks in production and marketing,
• Empower farmers to meet both local and national market demands,
• Promote animal welfare in happy egg farming practices.
Key participants included Mr. Kritpipat Rattananawingkul, Director of the Livestock Promotion and Development Division; Mr. Somphon Waipanya, Surat Thani Provincial Livestock Officer; officers from the Livestock Promotion and Development groups of provincial livestock offices; and 50 happy egg farmers from all nine provinces under Livestock Region 8.
This initiative is part of Thailand’s broader effort to develop a livestock industry that meets international standards, is environmentally friendly, improves animal welfare, and supports the sustainable growth of the country’s egg production sector.
